How do I measure my space for a fire pit? 

Measure the length and width of the area where you plan on putting your outdoor fire pit. Then, subtract 10 feet from any side that faces a structure or fence (that’s to meet standard fire code setbacks). Subtract another 3-4 feet per side for seating. The number you’re left with is your maximum size for a large fire pit.

What size fire pit is appropriate for 10 people?

We recommend something that’s around 60 inches or wider. That’ll give each person around 19 inches of space to spread out. Enough room for chairs without it feeling crowded. 

Is a 60-inch fire pit too big?

Definitely not. But obviously you need to confirm it’ll fit your specific outdoor living area. Budget at least 13 feet of open space across when you factor in seating clearance on each side. If your patio is under that space threshold, we recommend a 48-inch model.

Should I buy a large gas or wood-burning fire pit? 

A gas fire pit, be it natural gas or propane, is the more practical, convenient option with instant on/off and no ash. But there’s something about the rugged, rustic vibe of a wood-burning fire pit. The crackle of the flames, the ritual of building a fire. You can’t go wrong either way!

It depends on the fuel source. Assembling a wood-burning fire pit is super straightforward. But you may need help running gas lines if you go that route in buying a large fire pit.
