These stoves have a built-in combustion fan to supply air, while a convection fan pushes the heat out into the room. They’re the most practical way to keep your space warm.

There are freestanding units that vent through a wall/ceiling, whereas inserts go into an existing firebox to retrofit an old fireplace into something more convenient and modern. There are two types of feed systems as well - top-feed units drop pellets into the burn pot while bottom-feed units push them up from below.

What are the maintenance requirements for a pellet stove?

You have to empty the ash pan as it fills up. That’s usually once a week during the winter season while you run the pellet stove all day. The burn pot and heat exchanger should be cleaned monthly. Most people have their vent pipes inspected and cleaned once a season.

Why are people getting rid of pellet stoves?
